Below are my descriptions of the classes I completed as part of the Master of Arts in Education (MAED) program at Michigan State University.

CEP 818: Creativity in Teaching and Learning
This course encouraged me to go more outside of my comfort zone than any other course I've ever taken. We explored the importance of creativity to not only teaching but learning. Learning how essential creativity is in all areas of study, especially mathematics and science was surprising. I enjoyed learning about the creative process of different mathematics and what I can do in both my classroom and daily life to increase my creativity. |

CEP 805: Learning Math with Technology
During this course I was able to explore two of my passions, math and technology. I created an Online Resource Library where I organized my favorite resources into three categories: pre-calculus & calculus resources, algebra/geometry resources, and general teaching resources. The resources ranged from applets designed to better student understanding to websites designed to help teachers stay organized in the classroom. To see my Online Resource Library please see my Technology Showcase Page. |

CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Excited to be able to take this course in the fall. I am looking forward to learning about new technologies and being responsible for managing relationships among technology, teaching and learning. My hope is to learn about various ways to use technologies to assist in teaching my current lessons. I'm excited to learn and share with other teachers, ways that I can incorporate more technology into our school. |

ED 800: Concepts in Educational Inquiry
This course provided me with an opportunity to think and write about essential questions of education, including: What are its purposes, traditions, characteristic activities, and recurring problems and efforts at reform? What is most worth knowing and how are individual, institutional, and social views of schooling and the curriculum reconciled? How do we learn, what do we want from teaching, and from education outside of schools and beyond the years of formal schooling? |

ED 870: Capstone Seminar
This is one of the final courses of my Masters program. It was a culmination of the MAED program. In this course I reflected over my two previous years of classes and how they have impacted my teaching and on a bigger scale, my learning. Through this course, I created this electronic portfolio, not only expanding my uses of various technologies, but reflecting with classmates about our online presence. |
Kinesiology Courses

KIN 856: Physical Bases of Coaching Athletes
This course focused on the anatomy, physiology, sports medicine, and biomechanics as a foundation for coaching amateur athletes in various sports, for me that was volleyball and softball. I was able to explore how different muscular, joints, and skeletal groups worked together while playing volleyball. I also explored different forms of conditioning that specifically focused on improving volleyball skills. We also discussed common sport injuries and different preventative measures and treatments. |
Fall 2013
|
KIN 855: Psychosocial Bases of Coaching Athletes
This course provided me with sociological, psychological, philosophical, developmental, and instructional principles for coaching athletes in competitive sports, specifically volleyball and softball. Being able to truly develop my own philosophy of coaching was rewarding. I learned about the psychology of performance through discussion of motivation, anxiety, confidence, and coping strategies. One of my main takeaways from this course were the similarities between the classroom and the volleyball court or softball field. |
Spring 2015

KIN 854: Legal and Administrative Issues of Coaching
I am excited to take this course next spring and am looking forward to learning about the responsibilities associated with providing and maintaining educationally sound athletic programs for amateur athletes. I'll be learning about the administrative side of coaching, of which I am unfamiliar. With the completion of KIN 854, KIN 855, and KIN 856, I will receive an Online Graduate Certificate in Coaching. |

Teacher Education Courses
Fall 2012

TE 855: Teaching School Mathematics
This was one of the first classes that I took for my Masters program. I loved that I was able to explore many areas of teaching high school mathematics, including how mathematics has traditionally been taught in schools and how teachers have been prepared to teach it. We spent a great deal of time developing our own action research. I explored technology in the mathematics classrooms, more specifically, How to Effectively Involve Math Students in a Blended Model Classroom. |

TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
This class not only satisfied the state reading course requirement for all teachers, but served as an important reminder to me of the need for all students, including my math students, to be able to read. I made many more connections in this class than I initially thought possible. This was done by discussing reading in the high school math classroom with numerous classmates where we devised strategies, such as word walls and graphic organizers, to help our students become not only better math students and better readers, but better students overall. I am excited to try different reading and writing strategies in my classroom next year. |
