Nutritional Recovery Snack CardsI learned about the importance of both physical training and taking control of your nutrition in order to impact athletic performance. I spent a great deal of time focusing on recovery nutrition, appropriate after-practice or after-competition snacks. The cards have an education piece that outlines the case for good recovery nutrition and hydration and the impact that these have on performance. The cards also have 8 appropriate after-practice or after-competition snacks that meet the guidelines and recommendations that I learned about through literature and various studies in the course. They are in the form of cards that athletes will be able to cut out and have in their bags for easy reference.

Strength and Conditioning CircuitA well designed strength and conditioning program can build muscular strength, power, or endurance, improve agility and movement skills, and in other ways enhance performance. I learned how a strength and conditioning program can enhance performance simply by keeping athletes healthy and able to practice. I identified the injuries that are most common in volleyball and researched the mechanisms that contributed to those injuries. Using that research, I developed a 10 exercise strength and conditioning circuit that I can use with my athletes to hopefully prevent some of these injuries from occurring. I included a QR code that links to a youtube video of each exercise; this is to make sure that my athletes are performing each exercise properly.

Mediabook for Technique AnalysisI used Dartfish, a video analysis software, to create a mediabook. I took a volleyball video clip that I found online and provided a comprehensive analysis of a volleyball attack. Dartfish allowed me to perform a qualitative analysis of my performance video; it also allowed for some basic quantitative analysis as well. I identified key positions in the video that corresponded to different skills I wanted to highlight for my athletes. I used various analysis tools to draw, highlight, and identify various techniques to watch for while attacking a ball.

Professional Coaching NetworkI created a professional network, a group of sport science and sports medicine professionals – that I will be able to call on to assist me in providing service to my athletes. My professional network is comprised of an Exercise Physiologist, a Biomechanist, a Sport Nutritionist, a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, an Orthopedic Medical Doctor, a General Practitioner, an Optometrist, a Physical Therapist, an Athletic Trainer, a Massage Therapist, a Chiropractor, and a Dentist. I identified and collected contact information for sport science and sports medicine professionals in my geographic area that I will be able to tap into if a sport science or medicine specific need.

Implementation of a Volleyball ProgramThis paper explores the implementation of a volleyball program at International Academy (IA) East High School. IA is not permitted to be part of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA); however, there are still many athletes that attend IA East and my goal is to give them an opportunity to join a team, learn a new sport, and have fun. I discuss three main topics that will help me implement a volleyball program from the ground up. I address working with important stakeholders, specifically the athlete’s parents and school administration and team cohesion and team building.
